Description: Included is correspondence, instructor's guides, student booklets, data entry materials, student papers, statistics, speeches, publications, proposals, and the curriculum development papers that were part of the American Industry Project. The collection itself has been divided into three areas: Administrative File, Speeches/Publications, and Curriculum Development. Most of the collection is arranged alphabetically by filing unit and chronologically by document. Exceptions include data entry materials and feedback from participating teachers in curriculum development. In these cases the filing arrangement of the office of origin have been retained. The bulk of the collection is concerned with curriculum development. This material includes correspondence, work sheets, and annual reports from participating teachers that were used by administrators at Stout to evaluate and adapt the program. The instructor's guides were developed and refined through the years to meet changing needs. The student booklets and workbooks are products of the project. Speeches and publications were presented by Stout faculty to explain and popularize the idea of American Industry. They were presented at industrial technology workshops and conventions and were also printed in industrial and technological publications. Many of the speeches were included in proposals presented to various private and government foundations. The administrative files follow the day-to-day development of the project. This includes grant proposals, letters of support, correspondence, photographs, and technical reports. Due to preservation needs, some related materials have been withdrawn from this collection but are being retained at the UW-Stout Area Research Center. These materials include slides, filmstrips, and tape recordings of speeches and interviews with participating teachers and students.
